How to get registered to sell food

Arizona made home-cooked food legal to sell. Here are the steps to get registered. The food handler course only asks for your name and a small payment; it does not require citizenship or a Social Security number.

  1. 1

    Get your food handler card

Take a short online course from an accredited (ANAB) provider, available in Spanish, for about $8 to $13. It takes 30 to 90 minutes. When you finish, download and save your PDF certificate. It is valid for 3 years.

  2. 2

    Register with Arizona (ADHS)

Register online with the Arizona Department of Health Services cottage food program. Upload your food handler certificate and you will receive your registration number. Renew every 3 years and report any change within 30 days. Questions? ADHS can help at 602-542-1025.

  3. 3

    Cook safely in your kitchen

Prepare food in your own home kitchen. If you use meat or poultry, use store-bought (USDA-inspected) sources.

  4. 4

Come back and finish your kitchen here

Once you have your certificate and registration number, come back to Lita's Kitchen, open My kitchen, and add your registration number and card. We verify it and give you the Registered Kitchen badge.
